God does still speak. And I know that those words/thoughts will be consistent with what He has already spoken. But do you think He continues to speak in parables? Proverbs 1:6 says that a wise man will "understand a proverb and a figure, the words of the wise and their riddles." And Jesus told us that He spoke in parables so that those who weren't really listening wouldn't get it. IOW Jesus did not speak in just the way the religious people of His day, trained in rigorous study of scripture, could understand. The words He used seemed foreign to them. Does He continue to speak this way, in words that may trip up the learned but be revealed to babes?

Hi LL~ I do not believe He speaks in parables, because I am sure some folks including myself sometimes read and make it harder than the simplicity it is. Between the metaphors, parables and, symbolism we can make it complex than what a child sees. This is why I believe Jesus esteemed children over adults. I'll give you a few example using my son when I teach him scripture. (Also take a gander under the parent thread where I'm sure others parents will agree.) I was teaching my son Phillipians 4:13 using NIV (he has an NIV read Me Bible) So from my NIV I asked him to repeat the verse: I can do all things through Him (he repeats it) and finish the verse that says: Who gives me Strength. Now to my son he heard it as a question and piped up, "God momma!" So I moved on to This is the Day the Lord hath made let us rejoice and be glad in it. After he repeated it, he basically sighed and said, "Momma I know God gave me today and I am Happy!" The bible was meant to be read with childlike eyes, trust, and simple understanding. Sometimes I believe folks go a little to far in their defense when Jesus already said, Child like Faith is sufficient to enter the Kingdom CMT

I am sure maybe you are looking for something deeper, but I can say that you are right Pride hates truth and it kills. For one He leads the way, to another He is a stumbling block...and many of those who stumble are the most devoted and religious. Baaa...?

Yes, in Him, the mystery is solved. I also appreciate the thoughts you've shared. Yes, His sheep do hear His voice. And His sheep will not follow another. Yet Jesus continued speaking to those who knew so much yet did not know Him. And little by little, some turned. That is my encouragement and hope. Not getting hung up on specific words or distracted by words but hearing the message within. Hearing has much more to do with the heart than the ears. It is not a message of words but of a person, Jesus. Spirit and truth. Amen.

Jesus' words still trip up the proud, the wicked, and those who suppress the truth. So in that sense, yes, His parables are still parables.
