What are the characteristics of the LORD? His mind, will, and emotion? His personality? Tell me about God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit. Please.

For instance: God the Father loved mankind his creation so much he sent his son to die for us.
God the Son loved the father and us so much he gave his life for us.
The Holy Spirit draws us to Jesus.

Faithful
Just
Compassionate
Jealous
Teacher
Loves
Corrects

and the list goes on.

I read through the Bible regularly... without setting any time goals (i.e. through it in a year). I prefer to read with comprehension. I started journaling in 2006 with the primary purpose of writing down what I found in my readings of the character and nature of God: not just direct statements, but what can be inferred from how He acts and relates to us and His creation. There is MUCH to be discovered about God when reading and studing the Bible in this way. I have found this to be an tool towards knowing God personally.

Here's some examples of what I've found in terms of God's goodness:

In the creation, God created all things "good". Like His other character attrributes, "good" is an active and relational word. God is not "good" in an abstract or theoretical sense. He isn't good just because He likes good or approves of good things. He is good because He does good and is the source for all good. And His goodness is something I can appreciate.

When God created the world, He blessed all creatures that have souls (Genesis 1:22,28). He gave us (and continues to give us) all that is necessary for life; not just enough to survive but to flourish and enjoy what He has created. He invented pleasure ("Eden" means "pleasure"), and gave man the ability to enjoy pleasure. He made food that not only sustains life but tastes good. He gave us the ability to enjoy colors, sounds (including music), smells. He provided for Adam's needs by making Eve. And after He created everything, He fellowshipped with Man: He spent quality time with Him.

Even after Adam's disobedience, God graciously provided for him. Instead of physically dying that day, an animal died in his place. God provided the animal skins to cover Adam. God took the initiative to provide salvation, not Adam. He also provided the first hope of a Savior (Genesis 3:15).

There is much more evidence of God's goodness in the creation account and throughout the rest of the Bible. Reading of His goodness (and other attributes, including righteousness and holiness) helps me appreciate Him, relate to Him better, love Him more, worship, trust and obey Him.

All good is from God (James 1:17). When I receive good, I know who to thank. And I know that if I receive good from God, then He is good.

Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

While the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit fulfill different roles or offices in the Godhead, they are the same in character and nature.

For some reason, we tend to view them differently. In the past I've thought, at least subconsciously, of the Father as being the most holy, righteous, and unforgiving of the three, Jesus the most loving and forgiving, and the Holy Spirit as the most mysterious. In terms of power, I suppose I would think of the Father as being more powerful than the Son or the Holy Spirit. I assume this is true of the way many people think. But this is a false trichotomy. What we know of one we can apply to the other two.

Jesus loves us, but the Father also loves us and initiated the plan whereby we could be forgiven and restored to communion with Himself (John 3:16, Romans 5:8, 1 John 4:9-10). The Father punishes sin, but the Son will also condemn the unrighteous to the fires of hell (Matthew 3:12, 25:41,46). And while the scriptures don't expound as much on the character of the Holy Spirit, I gotta believe that He is also just as holy, righteous, powerful, loving, merciful, etc. and the Father and the Son.

In Judaism, an ancient sage Maimonides compiled a list of 13 attributes of God that all should believe:

1 There is a Creator who is perfect and put into motion all that exists.
2 God is One.
3 God has no body and cannot be affected by any physical force.
4 God is Eternal.
5 A person must worship God exclusively and no foreign or false gods.
6 God communicates with humanity through prophecy.
7 The prophecy of Moses is the greatest there is and ever will be.
8 The Torah (bible) comes from God.
9 The Torah cannot be changed.
10 God knows and sees all.
11 God rewards and punishes people.
12 The Messiah and the messianic era will arrive, some day.
13 God will resurrect the dead.
