Thank you all for the prayers and good wishes. She is just sensitive about everything. If I do my laundry different it is because her way isn't good enough. I think she has eased up. My husband is a trooper. He definately stands in the gap between us. He called and gently let her know that since we have been really stringent on our diet that he really can't handle greasy, sugary foods. I believe he mentioned that I had some problems as well but went in depth with his GI problems with it.

Deb, congratulations on the weight loss. Do you still eat sugar? Because it is crazy addictive. For many people, if you continue to eat it you will crave it. Sad but really true.

You probably still have too many carbohydrates in your diet.

I have been eating some things with Splenda and maybe that's why.

I use Splenda all the time and it doesn't cause cravings. It's more likely hidden carbs. I use half-n-half for my coffee. My husband recently bought fat-free half-n-half. Guess what? The fat-free version has sugar in it. Non-dairy creamer is packed with sugar. I pulled out a package of chicken breasts last night for dinner. For the first time I noticed it said, "solution added to enhance flavor" on the bag. I turned it over and looked for the ingredients: "chicken, water, salt, sugar solids". I was stunned. They added sugar to chicken breasts.

To rid yourself of the cravings you probably need to get the bulk of your daily carbs from vegetables.

Karen, Deb and 2jsmom, CONGRATS on your weight loss!

Sugar is indeed addictive. As Karen had pointed out previously, it's worse than heroin. I struggle with sugar addiction too. Sugar free foods are good if you can handle them. I can eat them sometimes, but not late at night, because that's when they trigger the sugar, sweets cravings.

Thanksgiving is going to be a challenge for me, because of all of the food we traditionally prepare. Our usual menu includes turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, cranberry salad, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes with brown sugar, mandarin oranges & marshmallows, hot buttered rolls, and of course pie, usually pumpkin and pecan, with whipped topping.

We have made a few, healthier changes to accommodate some relatives with health issues, such as making the cranberry salad and a few pumpkin pies sugar free, but it's the rest of the food that's hard to resist. I've decided to enjoy Thanksgiving foods, but eat small amounts of the carbs and more of the turkey and sugar free salad. I also plan to eat one piece of sugar free pumpkin pie a day.

(and no, you cannot come to my house for Thanksgiving dinner, no matter how good it sounds!)

Isn't that horrible??? We started really looking at labels a few years ago and were very surprised how many low fat or fat free things have more sugar in them than when they were full of fat. I do use half and half in my coffee, but it's not fat free. Thanks for the other tips. I think my cravings are more mental than phisical, but I'll try adding in some more veggies.

Melissa, I hear ya about Thanksgiving. Thankfully I've got some good low carb ideas from up here and my cookbook.

That is why I warn people that you have to read labels. Fat free, sugar free, light, it doesn't usually mean what you think or is ramped up in another area to make up. For me, I leave them alone for the most part. I still indulge in Yoplait light yogurt.

Well, two weeks ago, I weighed 224.6 lbs. Last week, I weighed 229 lbs.

This week, despite eating all of that sugary food, I LOST 3 LBS! Now I weigh 226 lbs. Must have been retaining water.

Yesterday, I did okay except for a small piece of cheesecake and 8 jelly fruit slice candies for snack. After I ate that, I went to bed, so I wouldn't eat anymore.

With company being here this week, it's been difficult to say no to temptation. This week will be even worse, for obvious reasons, namely Thursday. My plan is to try to limit myself these next four days, so that I can enjoy the good foods on Thursday through Saturday, then get back on plan again on Sunday.

I finally have a concrete way to measure weight loss.... I bought a dress for formal night on the cruise we are going on. I bought it on eBay so I couldn't try it on beforehand. The dress barely fits, so I am hoping it will fit much better by the time we leave, which is 2.25 months.

Melissa, your cat looks similer to mine except mine is a Ragdoll. I hear ya about Thursdays because I'm almost going nutty about it. We're going to my parents house and I'm gonna make sure I bring enough stuff for dh and I to chow on. I've been really good for these last 2 weeks and don't want to backslide. We're gonna have to have a prayer chain for those of us who are lacking self control !!

I just wanted to drop in here before we take off for the inlaws. I just want to encourage everyone to make great, healthy choices. You deserve to feel great and take care of yourself. If you do over indulge, try to overindulge in a some exercise too. No matter what happens, each day is new and holds the keys for victory in this battle.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

So how is everyone doing after the Thanksgiving feasts?

I did good, but I did splurge a bit on the chocolate pie. Yumm!! But I didn't take any leftovers home, so it was back to regular meals on Friday.

BTW, I was finding that I was getting very, very bored with the bland foods I was having... does this happen to anyone else?? I've had to spice things up a bit... I found a recipe for shrimp that includes honey, lemon juice, pepper, curry, and a couple of other spices. It was soooo good! I found a couple of other recipes too that helped spice things up. How do you put variety into your diet?

I'm at 178 today. I add a variety of spices or different food combos to spice things up.

Thanksgiving was okay. MIL was very offended that we didn't want to eat heavy, fatty foods for the entire visit (or at all for me). Our health conscious way of living really offends her. She thinks it is just stupid and why would you do that do yourself?? By the way, she is easily 50-60lbs overweight with a huge variety of health problems that would all benefit from proper diet and exercise. While we were out she ate a salad so we could she eats healthy. It was a Fried Buffalo chicken salad with tortilla strips, cheese and extra white dressing. Crazy stuff.

But all in all we did great. I got back to the gym today. I am really liking the Healthy Choice Natural Entrees coupled with Green Giant Immunity Blend Veggie for lunch. I would love to eat all unprocessed foods but with the kids sometimes I have to make the compromise or I won't get to eat.

I never eat bland food. I cook with tons of spices. Everything from cilantro, basil, red pepper, garlic, cumin, curry, chili powder, etc. It is a huge mistake to think foods that are good for you have to lack flavor. In fact, after eating simple, fresh fruits and veggies, I really prefer it to anything else. It let's the flavor of the food and spices come through without all the butter, sugar, fat etc.

I hope everyone had a great weekend. This month coming up is full of temptations but I know we can get through it together. Remember that there is no holiday treat or dish out there that tastes better than heathy feels. I promise that is true.

My MIL gets very offended when someone wants to eat healthy too. She's also needs to loose weight. She weighs the same as I do and she's 7" shorter than I am.

it is just bizarre to me. I am not telling her she has to change. She didn't talk to us for the last day because of it.

Absolutely! We love flavorful food, I cook with a ton of seasoning. Curry is so versatile and delish, we love curried shrimp w/ veggies and rice(for DH and DD, I don't eat rice very often).

I also do other dishes, like tonight we had "enchiladas". I filled them with meat, a little cheese, and beans. I cooked the meat with a lot of seasoning so they tasted fantastic and were very filling.

Right now I am on a cumin kick. One of our favorite meals is brown rice, black beans, lime cilantro rotel, lots of cumin, and then roasted veggies over it. It is so yummy. You can taste all the foods that are in there.

Well, I've been cyber Christmas browsing and shopping this week. Among the things that I've been looking at were Christian and secular exercise workout DVD's. I hope and pray that I receive a few of them this Christmas, so I can get more motivated to exercise.
