I'm glad you found a decent price for an exam Garsy.

And I'm sorry about all the homework for Ethan.

We've had a pretty light homework load so far this year.

K needed to find a sports article to write a 1/2 page summary (typed) of for the day she missed PE. Well, she got the one done for the day she missed for the funeral. But she still needed one for Thursday when her orthodontist appt is. And she has that class tomorrow so I wanted her to do it tonight. She thought she'd have 2 weeks to get it done, but I don't know if that still applies when it is the end of the 9 weeks. Since she knows she will be gone no need to put it off.

I finally told her she was staying home from her camp retreat this weekend if it wasn't done tonight. I mean, it doesn't take her long to read an article and summarize it. So after spending over an hour staring at the computer and hoping an article would jump out at her she did finally really start and get it done before she went to bed. Me thinks she doesn't take her PE grade too seriously.

N should be happy, hopefully no more vocal music for him while he is in MS or HS now. Unless they assign him another 9 weeks of it along the way in middle school.

H1N1 has hit our school. DD's best friend has it and I'm hoping that dd doesn't get it too.

Oh NO!

At this point, I'm just hoping that my kids are healthy enough to fight because I don't see them avoiding it.

I think I need to confront someone at the school. I'm not home before the kids and BigBee's comment was he can't start his homework until he gets DeeDee to stop crying (from the kids teasing her)

This needs to end folks.

I wrote the letter - it is in PBee's hands now.

Yesterday, a boy was turned backwards and his unders were showing so DeeDee asked him to pull them up and he said 'you know you want it' and pushed them down lower. When she asked BigBee to move up - he said no and the boys said that was because BigBee was afraid they would r*pe him and then said that a young lady would do it for them.

Folks, these are 6th grade kids.

I don't know if I want to cry at the loss of innocence or in anger at their nerve and the situation they put me in. Either way -

I think part of what hurts is I remember when the young man was born - because his mom called me to ask what labor felt like. We used to be that close.

When her second was born, her dh was out of town and the newborn wouldn't sleep until PBee held him. So he would take the baby (and nap) and BigBee would go play with the two little ones (DeeDee and this boy) while the two moms did laundry and dishes.

This hurts really bad.

Oh MBee. Your heart must be absolutely broken.

I was "grabbed" and sexually harrassed on the bus in 6th grade (by my classmates, not the older kids) the entire year. It was miserable. It pretty much stopped after that year, I think the boys were just trying so hard to be seen as tough guys by the older boys, I don't know.

But I can happily say all of those guys grew up into very mature, respectable men and most of them came to me as adults to apologize for the way they treated me in school. (We went to a very small school and my family still lives in that town, so everybody still knows everybody even if we don't live there anymore.) That went a long way toward my emotional healing.

(((MBee & DeeDee))) S has had a couple of similar incidents this past year. She was able to speak to the appropriate adult leaders, who took care of things in a correct manner. Her brother and another friend of theirs also offered to "take care of it," but since responsible adults were on the scene, they backed down. I understand your anger and sadness, too.

Pink, hope your daughter stays well, too. We've two schools close down for a week that are about an hour away from us, but so far our schools don't seem to have large portions of children out yet.

Garsy, Dee, Julia, Kath - praying for all of you.

I hope all forum folks have a good day today.

BTW - Haven't heard from Tracy in a long time. I wonder how the foreign exchange thing is going. Wasn't she going to have another student this year?

That is what I remember. She hasn't posted for quite a while though so I don't know what is going on with her.

Fortunately, the same stern stuff that runs through her Momma's veins, run through hers too. Her brother is ready to go to jail if it would mean the end of it. Gotta love that stupid kid.

On the plus side, we now own a pick-em-up truck. In the clear, and if it doesn't go until spring I think I will take a mental health leave of absence because I can't handle it any more....

We are calling it purple, even though it is a maroon Ford F150.

(((MBee))) That must be heartwrenching!

We had X's subject selection last night. They were a LOT clearer on timeframe this year and that although you have to a certain date, it is first in first served with the more popular subjects.

Last year, with J's, they were more focused on the fact you had time to ask questions and then, when we took time to ask those questions, we didn't get quick responses and J ended up with some subjects he really didn't want to be doing and missed out on a couple which would be prerequisites for him doing others in Years 11 and 12.

So, we put X's choices in last night and had to pay for one of the course fees because apparently you don't just have to have the selection in to have your place on the list, you have to have paid as well.

MBee, how aweful. I've heard of this stuff happening, but not around here and as far as I know it's never happened on my kids buses.

Dd has testing tomorrow to see how much they know and how well the district is doing. I think it's the PSAT's. I read the letters that come home I just forget stuff these days.

Got to run and cook some rice.

Mbee - Say something about it. That is uncalled for and should NOT be happening. In fact I would take it directly to the mother of this child. I've had to do that before. Basically say something to the fact that "DeeDee tells me that she is being harassed on the bus, and Big Bee has noticed too. Your son is involved. I NEED this to stop. I do plan on contacting the school about it but thought you deserved a heads up." What is the schools policy regarding harassment? The school bus is an extension of the school and the same rules should apply.

I actually find this very sweet and can see Ty doing the same thing!

We have several schools in this area that are experiencing very high absenteeism rates over the last couple of weeks. So far from what I hear our district is doing okay as far as high numbers of kids being out. There's one elementary school that is in the area that had over 100 kids out today! That is really bothersome considering the most at risk kids are likely those that can't take the nasal mist vaccination because the injection isn't available here yet. THAT has me worried. I might see about taking my three that can do the nasal mist after school on Friday. But Ethan will have to wait.

We did receive notice today that Ethan's classroom has gained a kid. There are now 90 kids in 5th grade! 90 kids in 3 classrooms! I'm REALLY upset about this! I guess I need to start squeaking again. And we got a note today that this child is severely allergic to nuts. Nuts or anything made with nuts is no longer allowed in the classroom and there will be a special table set up for this kid at lunch. And if the kids have peanut butter and such for breakfast they ask that the kids wash up before coming to school. Hubby says that restricting all the kids like this is unfair - but I can see why they are asking that certain rules be followed.

The homework load was much lighter tonight! That was a good thing! Ethan had a great after school enrichment class today. The local science museum came in and did a shark dissection class! He said that the other kids in his group were afraid to touch the tools so he got to do most of the cutting and pulling apart. He had a great time and learned a lot! I also found out that his math grade is improving big time! This is good!

Ty tells me that they are taking the PSAT's tomorrow too. I guess I didn't realize this was something that they just did regardless.

So today, Brian and I took the Honda to a friends house so they could replace the back brakes. So they work on that and find out that Brian bought the wrong stuff. So they went back and got the right stuff. Then in putting the right stuff on they broke a bolt. So off to the dealership - The dealership didn't have any but could order one but they wouldn't have it til morning. Brian ordered one. $12. Then they decide to try a junkyard to see if they could get one quicker. Well they could have BUT the junkyard wanted to charge them $35 for use of the tools and then $10 for the part! Let's see? $12 versus $45? I think we'll wait a day. So our friend is loaning us his BIG conversion van! This thing is like driving a bus! I hit our trash can pulling out of the driveway this afternoon. But Brian's taking it back into town tomorrow to get the part for the Honda and then we'll have our tiny car back again!

Ty's play practices are supposed to run til 5 PM each night. They haven't gotten out of there before 5:30 yet. Now I don't mind, but I wish the director would have just stated that in the first place. That way I would know for sure and maybe have time to run a couple errands or not have to rush out of girl scout meetings. I think I may have to just send an e-mail to the director or have Ty find out for sure the time frame on things.

Blessings,

Garsy

I sent a note, without names because I needed to confirm one. The principal is the transportation person he sent me a note asking for them and saying he would talk to the driver. Meanwhile, my kids sat together on the bus. On the afternoon run, the two boys were in the front seat. So, without names, the driver KNEW who it was - I hope they don't consider this over.

DeeDee missed her first Girl Scout meeting EVER to go to choir practice. The bigger deal was the fact that I was allowed to tell folks that she was at church. She never let me do that much because she felt that it opened up the discussion about going to the wrong church (as opposed to the ' the one correct church like mine')

Ha - this is funny...

We use real wine for communion. BigBee was talking to a buddy that only uses grape juice and of course the friend wanted to go with us to have wine. Folks - that is a joke, but can't you see it being said???? Anyhow. I was sharing that with a friend and she said that BigBee's friend wanted to 'convert to Christianity' for the wine and was preaching on the real benefits of converting. I repeated myself and she starts to repeat herself and then go 'oh - he already goes to church but doesn't use wine? Hmmm, we use grape juice too." I guess you'd have to be there, but I was trying NOT to laugh at her.

Just dropping in to say hi! I read all the posts, I just don't log in that much.

Momma_bee - that is horrible, and the fact that they are only in 6th grade makes me sick to my stomach. Your poor kids!! My sister teaches high school, and she constantly amazes me with the stories she tells. Did any of you see the wedding office episode? I thought it was completely raunchy, but my sister said that it was all her 7th and 8th graders talked about the next day. Wow - the sexing of younger children do not surprise me if that's what their parents let them watch.

My husband still does not have permanent work, but I have started working part-time at a Hallmark store. It's a job - and it's nights and weekends so we won't have to pay a babysitter. It's only minimum wage, so that stinks. I'm working on getting a teacher's certificate here in PA. Because my El Ed. degree is from a Christian College out of state, it's a little harder, but substitute's make $100 a day, which is way better than minimum wage.

Thanks for letting me be part of your lives!

That story was cute. We have both and I didn't realize it. Our denomination is pretty liturgical for some things and during Pastors liturgy he commented that the wine was in the center and grape juice was on the outside of the circle.

MBee, did you talk to the principal about what had happened to Dee?

I have typed the note twice with the fellows name and I hit delete. I have to send it, I just hate seeing him there, all alone in my note. And I can't find the words to frame it. I will have to talk to my sweetie before I hit send.

His mom is the girl who told me that her job was to raise her sons to be good husbands. I reminded PBee of that and said I cancelled the dowry.

My job is to see that he gets back on track, I guess.

We have out little car back!!! Yea!! Much easier to manage!

Brian went and had his eye appointment today too - we decided for him to get a full through exam and bifocals which he does need. So it ended up being more then we wanted to pay but necessary as he likely wouldn't pass an eye exam at the DMV without them. But he also got 2 pairs of glasses. So he won't be hurting for several more years!! The eye doc. said that his eyes look very healthy to for having diabetes and all.

Ty didn't have play practice tonight. Apparently the sr.'s had a college visit day while the sophomores and jr's took their PSAT's and the freshman did some sort of career day thing. So the director of the play said that since the seniors weren't likely going to be there (those that weren't going on college visits tend to skip out on this day) that practice would be canceled but that they would go til 5:30 on Thursday. Good to know. I can get to the library and run to the grocery if I have to and THEN go get him.

Gotta run. Apparently Aryn needs to use the computer! Her grades look great this week so I'm going to oblige!

Blessings,

Garsy
