Came across some lps at antique store today and I managed to work a deal with the owner where I could trade some pop records from the 1980s (from my brother’s meager collection) for the ones I wanted. He’ll never know… Anyway, as usual, some of these artists I am familiar with…some I am not. Hence the reason for this post. One lp of note is by the Inspirations, “Jesus Is Coming Soon”. This is in near-mint condition! The ones I need info on the artists are: ARTIST: Singing Senators (is this the same group Jim Hamill sang with briefly?) TITLE: “The Dynamic Sounds Of…” CREDITS: Jimmy Davis (tenor) J.W. (Red) Childers (lead) Gene Young (Baritone) Herman (Pete) Dover (bass) Forrest Stroupe (piano) This lp seems to have been recorded in the 1960s. The studio mentioned is the Sounds Of Atlanta. This was apparently a popular studio back in those days for gospel groups; I have many lps that were recorded there. There is no mention who played the instruments on the actual recording. ARTIST: Singspirations TITLE: “When I Get To Heaven, I’ll Be Free” CREDITS: Anita Williams Paul Long David Griffin Rickey Cross This could have been recorded in the 1970s. It was done at Lefevre Sound, which I think was in Atlanta. On the backliner notes is the humorous remark, “All of the group are young people, except the baritone singer and manager”. A Paul Young is named as manager. He has a Covington, GA address on the lp. Also near Atlanta (my mother lives there). ARTIST: Hall Family TITLE: “With Love” CREDITS: Jerry Hall Sara Hall (lead) Susan Hall (alto) Stanely (tenor and bass guitar) Steve (piano) This was probably done in the 1960s. Of note is the story on the backliner notes about the family’s loss of three children to leukemia and of Jerry’s struggle with alcohol…an inspiring story to be sure. Stanely and Steve are mentioned as being twins being 12 years old. The group is mentioned as being from Cumnock, NC. I wonder how many of you have ever heard of that town! I would appreciate any information on these groups. Thanks!

I don't know if the Singing Senators are still around. They were a barbershop quartet made up of four sitting senators. The last incarnation of the group included: Senators Trent Lott, John Ashcroft, Larry Craig, and James Jeffords. Lott got sidelined because he said something nice about the President of the Senate at a birthday party; Ashcroft became Bush's Attorney General; Jeffers stabbed his buddies in the back and went over to the enemy; while Larry Craig got derailed in a Minneapolis airport.

kingsman, I believe you have the right info, just the wrong group. I think the group ctpruitt is asking about was just a local Atlanta singing group from the late 60s/early 70s...

ARTIST: Hall Family TITLE: “With Love” CREDITS: Jerry Hall Sara Hall (lead) Susan Hall (alto) Stanely (tenor and bass guitar) Steve (piano This group is no longer singing. I was GREAT friends with these folks many years ago. The daughter (Susan Hall) is now in heaven, she also died of leukemia and the mother Sara also died of cancer. The two twins Steven and Stanley and the Dad (Jerry) are still around. I have this record. They recorded another record also. Where did you say you found the recond at.
