Oh, thanks for that! I love Panera, and it's a place of choice for when we're out on the road.

Well the diet starts today. I decided to measure everything out so that I am only getting one serving size. I have found out that 1 T of creamer isn't all that much and I'm going to have to start making my coffee weaker if I'm going to only have 1 T of creamer.

If there are certain "trigger" foods for you that sabotage your diet, perhaps keeping them the heck out of your house is the way to go? (If a family member insists on having them, hide them or keep them out of sight!) This is the absolute only way I can get around sabotaging myself. I am able to relax and take the focus off the food when I know there is only healthy stuff in the house. It sounds weird, but true.

Jenn, that doesn't sound weird at all. That is why I don't buy junk. If I buy junk, we eat junk. Simple as that. Molly, I love your lists. I think I might copy. I didn't know TJ's had precut butternut squash. I love it but I don't take the time to prep it from raw.

One thing that helps me with the temptation is to say I am free to eat anything I want if I am willing to live with the consequences. The two seconds of pleasure on my tongue isn't usually worth it. If I eat off plan then I usually retain lots of fluid so and let me just say that it goes on much quicker than it comes off. I also have to deal with the spiking blood sugars which triggers more cravings if I eat sweets.

I am having the same thing for breakfast and lunch and snack every day, so I am trying to "play with" and arrange things and focus on the presentation to keep things interesting and new. I found the cutest small green bowls by a company called "Zaki" and those are now my designated cereal bowls. And I found these nifty asian green spoons to use with my nifty green cereal bowls. I've also found that toast can be more fun (and interesting) if sometimes I leave it whole, sometimes I cut it into neat little squares, and sometimes I cut it into nice little triangles. I'm playing with spices and garnishes, too -- a lemon wedge here, a radish flower there, a few halved cherry tomatoes over there -- and some cilantro sprinkled festively. And I bought this great pepper grinder that grinds fresh lemon pepper -- how very cool is THAT? What I've discovered is that it can be fun to focus on spices and presentation and dishes (all of which are part of the enjoyment of eating) -- without always having to focus on just the food that I've been eating. Or even worse -- all the food that I used to eat without really noticing it, paying attention to it, and really enjoying it! So, the next time you find yourself getting bored or tired of eating the same (hopefully) healthy food over and over again -- switch things around a bit. Think of fun and creative ways you can make it feel new and different! Sprinkle some nutmeg on your cereal, or cinnamon on your toast -- spritz some lime on your green beans or give your low fat cottage cheese festive "sprinkles!" If you need fun and creative (and unbelievably clever) ideas, just Google "Bento" and lunches and you'll see the world's cutest food ... and it all looks pretty healthy, too! ENJOY!

i weigh my high school weight of 235. but now it is a slight pudge as oppsed to muscle of football days. My goal is 4-6 pounds a month until I hit around 210 or so. I have cut my meals down and rarely eat sweets. I will on occasion to kick my metabolism.

FunBetty, I find that diet sodas cause me to have more cravings, and after taking some time away from them (alas, I think of them as friends, and I have missed them ), I find that I don't really care for them, or the way they make my stomach feel after I drink one. I am finding that with a lot of foods/drinks lately. For example, yesterday I was an emotional mess. I've been having problems with anger over the past few years (not sure why, but for another thread I guess) and I've always been an emotional eater. SO, breakfast was 4 slices of wheat toast with un-measured spread, lunch was another 2 slices of the wheat bread with un-measured peanut butter and sliced banana (about 1/2 of a medium banana) and oh yeah, snack was a half of a box of wheat thins. For dinner, I wasn't hungry (I guess whole wheat really sticks to you lol), but later on, as I was recounting the horror of my day to my hubby, I was hungry again so I ate tortilla chips with some tex-mex sour cream dip my hubby bought on sale at Kroger. He said it hurt him to watch me eat that because he knows how important getting my weight under control is to me and that I was going to really beat myself up later, and because he knew how much my tummy was going to hurt after (I don't deal well with dairy in large amounts). He was right on both counts. I was angry with myself and I was hurting, both emotionally and physically after I ate all that. I really have to stop letting my emotions get the best of me. I have been doing oodles better in the past 6 months, but it just goes to show you that if you aren't diligent and you don't stay focused, you can still slide right back into old habits like they never left. I'm back on track today and praying I will stay that way until I lay my head down tonight.

I read studies somewhere supporting that, saying there is a related link to weight gain while drinking them. I don't remember if it was the carbonation, or the artificial sweeteners doing a number on your body. The last time I really tried to lose weight (besides last year before the wedding), I went to the gym for over an hour every day. I cut back on foods. I drank a lot of diet soda. After six weeks, I think I had lost maybe a pound? I was so frustrated I quit. I'm sorry you had a rough emotional day yesterday. I can relate to emotional eating.

I can send you an informational link, if you'd like. I have been out of them since I moved, and I've definitely felt the difference.
